Nyerere National Park was formally part of Selous Game Reserve and is located in Southern Tanzania on the coastal lowland plain East of the Udzungwa Mountains and South of Mikumi National Park. It was restructured so that part of it could be put to other economic uses such as mineral extraction and hydro electric power generation at Steigler's gorge. Hunting is not allowed in Nyerere National Park
