Savuti is a very hot and dry area located in North Western Botswana and is part of the Chobe National Park.

Savuti is famous because of the Savuti channel, which is a 'river' that sometimes flows for several years and then mysteriously dries up for an unpredictable number of years.

Currently it has been dry since 2015. It is thought to be affected by geological factors to do with faulting near to its source at the Chobe river.

Savuti marsh is not a true marsh but during the wet season and also periods when the channel does flow into it, it seems like one. Regardless of that, this area is a World renowned hotspot for observing carnivores.

Some help is given to the wildlife by pumping water from boreholes into several of the waterholes during the dry season.

I have included a page dedicated to areas of dry mopane bush outside the recognised game reserves here. Much of Northern Botswana appears to be covered in mopane bush - with various other plants and trees as well, depending on the local water availability, and as such houses a wide variety of wildlife. It gives me the chance to show a little more of what the country is like.
